Movie Review: Let Me In
Usually, when someone says, “Let me in,” it’s because they’re standing outside and it’s raining or cold or they’re afraid of a dog. Now, kids and teenagers are saying it because they want to see the movie Let Me In. Unfortunately, it’s rated R and it’s not like they’re going to ask their parents to take them because they might see a friend from school and then they’d be totally embarrassed. I think the title kind of empowers young people to be able to see any movie they want, to demand their ticket for a movie instead of having to say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’. I think it should’ve been called Let Everyone Who Wants To See It In, but it’s kinda too late to make changes.
Let Me In is a new movie by Chloe Moritz, who played HitGirl in Kick Ass. The movie is about a little boy (who looks like a lot of the Goth girls at my jr. high school before they filled out) who gets beat up because he has no friends because nobody wants to hang out with him because he’s always getting beaten up. Reality Shows That Would Be Good Reality Movies
This summer, I actually started watching documentaries. Documentaries are movies that are about real stuff and are usually shot on hand-held cameras by people called narrators. Netflix has a whole section on Instant Watch for documentaries, so you don’t even have to feel bad about falling asleep because it’s free. What I learned from watching these is that real-life, if edited well and with people talking over the pictures, can be kind of not boring. This got me thinking about reality and how Hollywood could use reality to make movies about. So, I have put together a list of reality shows that I think would be amazing reality movies. (more…)
Movie Review: Predators
Q: How on Earth do you stop hunters from hunting?
A: Another planet, that’s how!
If you’re like me, you are a strict vegetarian eater who loves animals and only eats meat on holidays (Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc.) and even then only meat from stores because hunting causes a lot of suffering to animals. If you’re not a vegetarian, however, then the new movie Predators gives you a big reason to become one and not hunt: the plot of the movie. (more…)
Movie Review: Iron Man 2
One of the great things about living in North America is that we get to see movies before anyone else in the world (unless they are foreign films and then foreign countries are first, then us and then Mexican countries), so it was incredibly super exciting for me and my friend Sarah (Hi, Sarah!) to be among the first people to ever see Iron Man 2.
Oh, hello, Valerie. I have been living in some sort of cave for a period of time and am nonclear about this Iron Man 2. Is this some sort of weightlifting competition for those overly muscular people that take droids?
Not quite. Iron Man 2 is the trilogy to the very successful and popular film Iron Man DVD that starred actor Robert Downey Jr. who also played famous French policeman Sherlock Holmes, recently.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark and is also Iron man. Everyone knows he is Iron Man because he told everyone, so now everybody knows, including many of us in the audience, which made the fact that he continued to wear an Iron Man mask seem kind of pointless.
Movie Review: Kick Ass
This review is kind of late, so I apologize to everyone who waiting to read this before deciding whether or not to see the movie Kick Ass. Sorry, guys.
Anyway, so I went and saw Kick Ass over the weekend (this past weekend, not the one coming up) with my nephew Aidan who is 5 (years old) and my grandma whose age I am not sure of for sure, but she is old. She said she even remembers when ‘movies were a quarter’. Like I’m going to believe that people used to be able to buy DVD’s for a quarter. Nice try.
I was excited about seeing this movie after I watched the actors talk about it at Wondercon 2010. They all seemed really nice and so I thought I’d support them in their movie. So, all three of us all went to this movie thinking it was going to be a lot like the Spiderman trilogies, but we were way wrong. It is so way different! First of all, the characters don’t have any powers. Imagine the movie The Watchmen except that the heroes don’t have any powers and that’s basically what Kick Ass is like. I thought it would be interesting to hear all of our perspectives, so I actually recorded our conversation as we talked about the movie. As far as I know, this is the first time anyone’s ever recorded a review, so it kind of makes me a buccaneer, of sorts.
